In 2010 the Homeless World Cup travelled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The tournament took place on the beautiful Copacabana Beach, where the hosts Brazil took the honours in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
A unique feature of the Homeless World Cup tournament is that regardless of ability, all teams compete for the same number of days. The competition breaks into a number of different trophies. Because of these levels of competitions, the games are exciting and meaningful even on the final day of the tournament. On the last day, each team earns their final position – and those standings then influence the rankings that will seed next year’s tournament.
There are a total of nine trophies: six for the men’s competition and three for the women’s. The Homeless World Cup and Women’s Homeless World Cup trophies are the top prizes, respectively.
WOMEN’S HOMELESS WORLD CUP (Tier 1)

A dogged Mexico were powerless to resist as Brazil achieved an emphatic victory in the final of the Rio 2010 Women’s Homeless World Cup, winning 7-3.
Brazil captain Julia Santos had continued her stunning form throughout the tournament by establishing an early lead for the hosts and they looked in control throughout an exciting final.
Women’s player of the tournament Karina Robcedo Espinoza looked to have spurred a Mexico revival with a quick-fire double before half-time but the flare of Brazil sealed victory in the second.
Brazil added 3 goals without reply after the break as Mexico tired in sweltering conditions in Rio and as the final whistle blew celebrations erupted on Copacabana Beach.
WOMEN’S City Cup (Tier 2)

Kyrgyz Republic took the Women’s City Cup in the second tier of the competition with a fantastic 9-4 victory against a fancied Netherlands side.
Resolute defensive work was the key for Kyrgyz Republic as they were put under long periods of pressure from a talented and attack-minded Dutch side who could not cope with the clinical counter attacks of the opposition.
WOMEN’S INSP NETWORKING TROPHY (Tier 3)

Norway overcame Uganda in a see-saw encounter to land the third tier Women’s INSP Networking Trophy, winning 5-4.
Two of the most physically imposing sides in the Women’s tournament, the teams played out a bruising encounter which lacked nothing in patient passing football and was settled by a stunning strike with only seconds on the clock.
